Why is Health and Physical Education important?
Health and physical education has been proven to reduce risk of heart failure, improve physical fitness, maintain a healthy weight, good health promotion, self discipline, skill development, improved self-confidence, stress reduction, healthy decision making, increase academic performance, and develop lifetime skills. The CDC reports that participation in all types of physical activity declines strinkingly as age or grade level in school increases. Therefore we need to develop and maintain healthy students so that they can stay healthy throughout their lifetime. Health and hysical education also builds a students' knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes about health. Students learn skills they will use to make healthy, positive decisions by teaching about physical, mental, emotional, and social health. It motivates students to improve and maintain their health, prevent disease, and reduce risky behavior. Health and physical education is important to every student and it leads them to live healthier, as well as longer lives.
Why is Health and Physical Education important to combating childhood obesity?
During the past thirty years in the United States, there’s been a dramatic increase in general obesity as well as childhood obesity. Today’s adults are
yesterday’s youth, and today’s youth are tomorrow’s adults; but the future does not look promising for many youths. That is why health and physical education classes are key during this epidemic. Health and physical education teaches students the main components of staying fit, active, and healthy and how to maintain healthy throughout their lifetime. The main idea to stop this epidemic is for the children to eat healthier, exercise, and stay active and it all starts from health and physical education!
